Usage Note
Continente is masculine. In Spanish-speaking geography, five continents are often counted (América as one), though school curricula vary. The adjective continental is derived from it. Continente also has a secondary literary sense of 'container' or 'bearing' (as in facial expression), though this is rare in modern usage.
Examples
"África es el segundo continente más grande."
Natural Translation
Africa is the second largest continent.
