contacto

contact

noun kohn-TAHK-toh Less Common

Also means

touch

Usage Note

Contacto covers physical touch (contacto físico), a social/professional connection (mis contactos, my contacts/network), and electrical contact (un contacto eléctrico). The fixed phrase ponerse en contacto con (to get in touch with) is the standard way to say 'to contact someone' — the verb contactar exists but is considered less elegant in formal writing.

Examples

"Nos pusimos en contacto por correo electrónico."

Natural Translation

We got in touch by email.

Literal Translation

We put-ourselves in contact by email electronic.
