Condenar means to condemn morally or to sentence legally — fue condenado a cinco años (he was sentenced to five years). The reflexive condenarse means 'to be damned' in a religious sense. The noun is condena (a sentence or conviction). Learners should note that 'to convict' in Spanish is condenar, not convencer (which means 'to convince').
