Usage Note

Concienciar is a transitive verb meaning to make someone consciously aware of a social or ethical issue — concienciar a la gente sobre el cambio climático. Used reflexively, concienciarse means to become personally aware or committed. It is more common in Spain; Latin American speakers often prefer concientizar, derived from conciencia via a different suffix.
