Usage Note

Comparecencia is the formal act of presenting oneself before a court, parliamentary committee, or official body. It derives from comparecer ('to appear'). A comparecencia obligatoria is a summons, whereas a comparecencia voluntaria means appearing without being ordered to. It is almost exclusively used in legal and political contexts.
