Usage Note

Comedia in modern Spanish means a comedy film, TV show, or theatrical comedy. Historically, the Comedia nueva of the Golden Age (Lope de Vega) referred to any three-act play regardless of tone. The phrase hacer la comedia ('to put on an act') means to pretend or fake.
