Usage Note

Colgar is an o→ue stem-changing verb (cuelgo, cuelgas…) and also has a -gar spelling change in the first-person preterite (colgué). Colgar el teléfono means 'to hang up the phone', and colloquially colgarse means 'to freeze' (of a computer). The past participle colgado informally describes someone who is spaced out or obsessed.
