co

cobalt (symbol)

noun seh-OH Rare

Usage Note

Co is the chemical symbol for cobalt (cobalto), a hard, lustrous, silver-grey metal (atomic number 27). In Spanish technical texts the symbol is read as a standalone abbreviation, never pronounced as a word. Cobalt compounds give ceramic glazes and glass their characteristic blue colour — the term azul cobalto (cobalt blue) is widely known beyond chemistry.

Examples

"El Co es esencial en las aleaciones de alta temperatura."

Natural Translation
