Usage Note
Chauchera is used primarily in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay for a small purse used to carry coins. In Spain the equivalent is monedero. The word derives from chaucha, River Plate slang for a small coin of little value. Learners in Latin America will hear it in everyday shopping contexts, but it would be puzzling to a Spanish speaker from Spain.
Examples
"Guardó las monedas en su chauchera."
Natural Translation
She put the coins in her coin purse.
