Cenar means specifically to eat the evening meal. Spanish uses distinct verbs for each meal: desayunar (breakfast), almorzar/comer (lunch), merendar (afternoon snack), cenar (dinner). ¿Qué hay de cenar? ('What's for dinner?') is a very common household phrase.
