canalizar

to channel

verb kah-nah-lee-SAHR Rare

Also means

to direct

Usage Note

Canalizar is used figuratively far more than literally: canalizar recursos (to channel resources), canalizar la energía (to direct one's energy), canalizar quejas (to funnel complaints). The literal sense — to build a canal — is construir un canal. Note the spelling change to canalice in the subjunctive/imperative (-zar verbs change to -ce before e).

Examples

"El gobierno quiere canalizar más fondos hacia la educación."

Natural Translation

The government wants to channel more funds towards education.
