Usage Note

Burro is the common word for a donkey or ass, but it is widely used informally to call someone stupid or ignorant: no seas burro = 'don't be an idiot.' The feminine burra follows the same pattern. In some Latin American regions, burro also refers to a sawhorse or step-stool (burro de planchar = ironing board in Mexico). Do not confuse with asno, the more formal/literary synonym.
