Usage Note
Blasfemia refers to speech that insults or shows contempt for God or sacred things, and can also mean a gross falsehood or outrage in figurative use. The verb is blasfemar and the person is blasfemo (m) / blasfema (f). In Spain the law against blasphemy was repealed in 1988, but the word still carries strong cultural weight in devout communities.
