Usage Note

Audiencia covers both a viewing/listening audience (audiencia televisiva) and a formal legal or official hearing (audiencia judicial). In Spain, la Audiencia Nacional is the high court for serious crimes. The word comes from the Latin audire (to hear), the same root as audio and auditor.
