Usage Note
Atacar applies to physical, military, and figurative attacks — one can atacar an argument as well as a position. The spelling changes to ataque in subjunctive/imperative (c → qu before e). The noun form ataque (attack, seizure) is very common; ataque al corazón is a heart attack.
