Usage Note

Asolar means to lay waste to a place, typically used for natural disasters or wars (el terremoto asoló la ciudad). It is a formal synonym of devastar and arrasar. Note it is a stem-changing verb (o→ue in the present: asuela) and should not be confused with asolar meaning 'to sun' (a different, rare verb spelled identically).
