artificial
artificial
adjective ahr-tee-fee-SYAHL Less Common
Origin: From Latin 'artificialis', from 'artificium' (craft, skill).
Usage Note
Artificial is invariable in gender and pluralises as artificiales. It closely mirrors the English cognate. The phrase inteligencia artificial (artificial intelligence) has made it extremely common in contemporary Spanish. Do not confuse with artificioso (artful, cunning), a rarer and more pejorative adjective.
Examples
"Prefiero flores naturales, no artificiales."
Natural Translation
I prefer natural flowers, not artificial ones.
