Usage Note

Apuñalar means to stab with a knife or dagger (puñal). It is a regular -ar verb used almost exclusively in news and crime contexts. Do not confuse it with acuchillar (to slash with a large knife) or pinchar (to prick/stab lightly). The noun puñalada (stab wound) shares the same root.
