Apagado is the past participle of apagar used as an adjective and covers both literal and figurative senses: a television that is off (la tele está apagada), a muted or dull colour (colores apagados), or a person who seems lifeless or withdrawn (está muy apagado últimamente). The antonym is encendido (switched on, bright, fiery).
