anónimo

anonymous

adjective ah-NOH-nee-moh Less Common

Origin: From Greek anōnymos, 'without a name', via Latin anonymus.

Usage Note

Anónimo can modify a person, a text, or an act (una donación anónima). The phrase sociedad anónima (abbreviated S.A.) is the Spanish equivalent of a public limited company or corporation, a very common business designation — it does not imply secrecy. Learners sometimes confuse it with incógnito, which refers to travelling under a disguise.

Examples
