Usage Note

Amenaza is used for physical, political, and figurative threats. The verb is amenazar (amenazar con + infinitive = to threaten to do something). A common collocation is bajo amenaza (under threat). Do not confuse with peligro (danger), which is an existing hazard rather than a deliberate warning.
