Usage Note
Altamente is used before adjectives and past participles to mean 'highly' or 'extremely' in formal and written registers (altamente recomendable, highly recommended; altamente peligroso, highly dangerous). In everyday speech, muy is preferred. It cannot precede a noun the way English 'highly' can with 'highly qualified person' — use muy cualificado instead.
Examples
"El medicamento es altamente efectivo contra la infección."
Natural Translation
The medication is highly effective against the infection.
