allí

there (at that place)

adverb ah-YEE Common

Usage Note

Allí marks a specific place that is distant from both speaker and listener — it is more precise than ahí ('there, near you') and the most distant of the three-way contrast: aquí (here) / ahí (there, near you) / allí (there, away from both). In informal Latin American speech, allá often replaces allí for this distant position.

Examples

"Él vive allí desde hace años."

Natural Translation

He has lived there for years.

Literal Translation

He lives there since makes years.
