Usage Note

Alabar is a regular -ar verb. It is slightly more formal than elogiar or felicitar and carries a sense of admiration that can have a religious flavour — alabar a Dios ('to praise God') is a common devotional phrase. In everyday speech elogiar or simply decir cosas buenas de are more neutral alternatives. The related noun is alabanza ('praise').
