Aceptar means to accept an offer, invitation, or condition; it also carries the sense of tolerating or putting up with something (aceptar la realidad). It is a cognate of 'accept' with no deceptive shift in meaning. Do not confuse it with recibir (to receive a physical object) — aceptar implies consent or approval.
