Usage Note

Xenófobo describes a person or attitude hostile to foreigners; the noun el/la xenófobo/a names such a person. The related abstract noun is la xenofobia. It is a formal or journalistic term; in everyday speech Spaniards might say racista more broadly. The x is pronounced /ks/ in careful speech, though many speakers say /s/ informally.
