Usage Note

Vivar means to cheer someone or something with shouts of ¡viva! — it is the verb formed from the exclamation viva (long live). It is relatively formal or literary; in everyday speech aclamar, ovacionar, or simply gritar ¡viva! are more natural. The word should not be confused with vivir (to live) despite the shared root.
