Usage Note

Victimismo is a critical term for the tendency of a person or group to present themselves as a victim in order to gain sympathy or avoid responsibility. It is frequently used in political and journalistic discourse with a dismissive or sceptical tone: acusar a alguien de victimismo is to accuse them of playing the victim. The word has no straightforward English single-word equivalent; 'victimhood culture' is the closest concept.
