Vencer means both to beat an opponent and, impersonally, for a deadline or contract to expire: el plazo vence el viernes (the deadline expires on Friday). The reflexive vencerse is used for perishable goods passing their sell-by date. Note the spelling change: venzo (yo), not venco.
