Usage Note
Veces is the irregular plural of vez ('time, occasion'), following the -z → -ces rule. It appears constantly in frequency adverbials: a veces ('sometimes'), muchas veces ('often'), pocas veces ('rarely'), de vez en cuando ('from time to time'). The singular vez is used in ordinal phrases: por primera vez ('for the first time'). Learners should memorise the set phrases rather than trying to construct them from scratch.
