Usage Note
Trotar describes the gait between a walk and a canter, used literally of horses or runners. In colloquial Spanish, especially in Latin America, it can mean 'to jog' for exercise — a runner might say voy a trotar where a Spaniard might say voy a hacer footing. The noun trote ('trot') also appears in the fixed phrase al trote meaning 'at a trot'.
Examples
"El caballo empieza a trotar por el campo."
