Usage Note

Traumático applies both to physical trauma (a traumatic injury) and psychological trauma (a traumatic experience). In informal speech, Spanish speakers often use traumatizante for 'traumatising' (an ongoing effect) as distinct from traumático (the event itself). The related verb is traumatizar.
