trastocar

to disrupt

verb trahs-toh-KAHR Rare

Also means

to rearrange

Usage Note

Trastocar means to upset or disrupt an order, plan, or arrangement — la tormenta trastocó todos los planes (the storm disrupted all the plans). It is a regular verb (trastoca, trastocamos), unlike the older variant trastrocar, which diphthongises (trastrueca). Do not confuse it with trastornar ('to disturb mentally').

Examples

"El accidente trastocó todos nuestros planes de viaje."

Natural Translation

The accident disrupted all our travel plans.
