Usage Note

Torre covers architectural towers (torre del reloj, clock tower), communication masts, and the rook piece in chess (la torre in ajedrez). The double-r is pronounced as a trill. Torre is feminine: la torre alta. In Spain torre can informally refer to a detached house with a garden, a usage not common in Latin America.
