Usage Note

Tallar means to carve or cut material such as wood, stone, or gems. It is the verb behind talla (size/carving) and tallado (carved). Do not confuse with cortar (to cut generically); tallar implies shaping by removing material with skill. In Mexico it can also mean to scrub.
