típico

typical

adjective TEE-pee-koh Less Common

Also means

characteristic

Usage Note

Típico is used both in a neutral descriptive sense (un plato típico de la región, 'a typical regional dish') and in a mildly ironic or exasperated one (¡típico!, meaning 'typical!' as a reaction to predictable behavior). When describing food or traditions, típico often carries warm, culturally proud connotations rather than the dismissive tone the English 'typical' can have.

Examples

"Es un plato típico de esta región."

Natural Translation

It is a typical dish from this region.
