seriamente

seriously

adverb seh-ryah-MEN-teh Rare

Also means

gravely, severely

Usage Note

Seriamente modifies verbs and adjectives to convey genuine gravity — seriamente herido ('seriously injured'). It is not used as a stand-alone reaction the way English 'seriously?' is; for that, Spaniards say ¿en serio? The shorter en serio is also the idiomatic way to express 'in earnest' in many contexts.

Examples

"El accidente lo afectó seriamente."

Natural Translation

The accident affected him seriously.
