Usage Note
Seriamente modifies verbs and adjectives to convey genuine gravity — seriamente herido ('seriously injured'). It is not used as a stand-alone reaction the way English 'seriously?' is; for that, Spaniards say ¿en serio? The shorter en serio is also the idiomatic way to express 'in earnest' in many contexts.
