Origin: From Latin segmentum (a cut), from secare (to cut).

Usage Note

Segmento is used in geometry (line segment), marketing (segmento de mercado), and general discourse for a discrete portion of something. In Latin America segmento is also used for a TV programme slot. Unlike sección, segmento implies a division that is part of a measurable whole.
