Usage Note
Sargento is a non-commissioned officer rank used in the army, police, and other uniformed services. It is a masculine noun by default, but la sargento is now widely used for a female holder of the rank. In colloquial speech it can be applied humorously to a strict or bossy person ('es un sargento en casa').
