Usage Note
Saludo covers both a spoken or written greeting and a physical salute (saludo militar = military salute). In written correspondence saludos (plural) is the standard closing: un saludo or saludos cordiales (kind regards). The verb is saludar. Note that salud (health) and saludo share the same Latin root salus but are distinct words; ¡Salud! is the toast said when someone sneezes or when drinking.
