salmo
psalm
noun SAHL-moh Rare
Origin: From Greek psalmos (song sung to a harp), via Latin psalmus.
Usage Note
Salmo refers to a psalm — a sacred song or poem, especially those of the biblical Book of Psalms (el Libro de los Salmos). The initial p of the Greek/Latin source is silent in Spanish, unlike in English 'psalm'. In Catholic liturgy, psalms are recited or chanted at Mass.
Examples
"Recitaron el salmo veintitrés en la misa."
Natural Translation
They recited Psalm twenty-three at Mass.
