Usage Note

Sacerdotisa is the feminine form of sacerdote ('priest') and is used primarily for priestesses of ancient or non-Christian religions (Greek, Roman, Aztec, etc.). In the Catholic Church the word sacerdote remains masculine; there is no ordained female equivalent. The word is always feminine.
