Usage Note

Romper has an irregular past participle: roto (not rompido), so 'I have broken it' is lo he roto. It is used for physical breaking (romper un vaso) and also metaphorically: romper una relación (to break off a relationship), romper el hielo (to break the ice). Romperse (reflexive) means to break (intransitively) or to tear a muscle/bone.
