Recoger covers gathering something (recoger los datos), picking someone up (recoger a los niños del colegio), and tidying a space (recoger la habitación). The -g- softens before -a/-o in spelling (present subjunctive recoja). It is one of the most versatile everyday verbs for physical and logistical actions.
