recobrar

to recover, to get back

verb rreh-koh-BRAHR Rare

Usage Note

Recobrar is a near-synonym of recuperar but is more literary and slightly more emphatic — recobrar el conocimiento (to regain consciousness) and recobrar fuerzas (to recover one's strength) are stock phrases. In everyday speech recuperar is the more common choice; recobrar tends to appear in formal writing and set expressions. The reflexive recobrarse means to recover from an illness or shock.

Examples

"Tardó semanas en recobrar las fuerzas."

Natural Translation

He took weeks to recover his strength.
