to mark down (price)

Usage Note

Rebajar commonly refers to reducing a price or salary (rebajaron los precios = 'they lowered the prices') and is the root of rebaja ('discount') and las rebajas ('sales / clearance'). It also means to physically lower something or dilute a mixture. Reflexively, rebajarse means 'to demean oneself; to lower oneself' — no me voy a rebajar a discutir con él ('I won't stoop to arguing with him').
