Usage Note
Realismo is used in art, literature, philosophy, and politics. In literature and painting, it names the 19th-century movement championing faithful depiction of everyday life. In politics, realismo (realpolitik) contrasts with idealism. The derived adjective is realista (realistic/realist), which is also a common-gender noun for an adherent of realism.
