Usage Note

Rasgo refers to a distinguishing characteristic — of a person's character (rasgos de personalidad) or face (rasgos faciales). In handwriting, a rasgo is also a flourish or stroke of the pen. The phrase a grandes rasgos ('in broad strokes', 'broadly speaking') is an extremely common fixed expression in Spanish conversation and writing.
