Usage Note

Quitar means to remove or take away something (quita las manos, 'take your hands off'). The reflexive quitarse means to take off clothing (quitarse el abrigo, 'to take off one's coat'). The expression quitarse de en medio means 'to get out of the way'. It differs from sacar, which implies drawing out from inside something.
