quedar

to stay

verb keh-DAHR Common

Also means

to arrange to meet

Usage Note

Quedar is highly flexible: quedarse (with reflexive se) means to stay behind, while bare quedar can mean to arrange a meeting: quedamos a las ocho (we're meeting at eight). It also describes how something turns out: quedó muy bien (it turned out really well). The reflexive and non-reflexive uses carry meaningfully different senses.

Examples

"Vamos a quedar el viernes."

Natural Translation

We're going to meet up on Friday.
